Dredge

Overview:
  • Colors: BLACK GREEN RED BLUE
  • Combo
  • Lands: 20
  • Link: Deck description
  • Meta: 3% (01.02.2018)
Deck idea:
  • Mill yourself to fill your graveyard (Insolent Neonate, Cathartic Reunion, Faithless Looting)
  • Put creatures back from graveyard to the battlefield for 0 costs (Prized Amalgam, Bloodghast, Narcomoeba)
  • Dredge (Golgari Grave-Troll, Stinkweed Imp, Life from the Loam) instead of draw
Dredge Ruling:
  • If you would draw a card while you have a dredge card in your graveyard, you have two options:
    • draw the card normally
    • put the dredge card into your hand and mill X
  • Dredge replaces any card draw not just the one that you get during your draw step
Remark:
  • A good hand can result in 10 or more points of power on the board by the second turn
  • Golgari Grave-Troll was banned 2017

  • Combo
  • Lands: 22-23
  • Link: Deck description
  • Meta: 1% (01.02.2018)

    • 7-9 manadorks (Birds of Paradise, Noble Hierarch and Wall of Roots)

Burn

Overview:
  • Colors: RED
  • Aggro
  • Lands: ABC
  • Link: Deck description
  • Meta: 6% (01.02.2018)
Deck idea:
  • Burn is a deck made up primarily of the most efficient burn spells available
  • It doesn't care what the opponent is doing
  • It simply wants to deal as much damage to the opponents as quickly as possible
  • Lightning Bolt is the epitome of a burn spell. It deals 3 damage, where ever we want, at the low cost of 1 mana. And it does it at Instant speed
  • There are many variations of Burn, including Naya (RWG), Jund (RGB), Mardu (RWB), Boros (RW) and the OG mono-red. The most successful Burn lists however, have been Naya.

Affinity

Overview:
  • Colors: Colorless
  • Linear aggro with combo elements
  • Idea: Flood the board with small creatures
  • Lands: 17
  • Link: Deck description and description
  • Meta: 7% (01.02.2018)
Deck idea:
  • Strengths:
    • Speed and explosiveness
    • Highly resilient to point removal and board wipes
  • Weaknesses:
    • Sideboard artifact hate
    • Due to streamlined and linear nature not that strong sideboard (also danger of over-sideboarding)
  • Affinity is an Artifact-based fast aggro deck that also goes by the name Robots
  • All around one the affinity card Thoughtcast
  • Not a lot of interaction
  • It combines low-costed creatures with evasion and highly efficient spells in the form of Thoughtcast and Galvanic Blast
  • Theoretically, the deck can win on as early as turn 2, although in reality it mostly wins on turn 4 or turn 5 with light disruption
  • It's one of the most complex decks to play in Modern
  • How to beat: Sideboard artifact hate and aggressive mulligans

  • Curve stops at 3 CMC
  • No removal, so problem when outclassed on the battlefield

Scapeshift (Titan Shift)

Overview:
  • Colors: RED GREEN
  • Combo
  • Lands: 25
  • Link: Deck description
  • Meta: 3% (01.02.2018)
Deck idea:
  • It is mainly a one-card combo with Scapeshift: Sacrificing 7 lands to search for 6 Mountains and a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle triggers 6 Valakut which makes 18 damage and (often enough in a format defined by fetchlands and shocklands) (or they add a lightning bold)
  • The deck ramps hard and early, seeking to get as many lands into play as quickly as possible
  • Besides some removal most cards search for lands and Primeval Titan as a powerful creature
  • Exists also as RED BLUE control/combo-deck
  • Defending strategy: counter Scapeshift

  • Trouble against big mana decks (e.g. Tron)
  • Played also as Abzan (+White) and Jund (+Red)

  • Keep in mind this deck is a meta deck at heart, its power stems from that, not the intrinsic power of the cards themselves.
  • There are three variants of the deck:
    • Eldrazi And Taxes
    • G/W Death And Taxes
    • Mono-White Death And Taxes

  • It is a deck that runs efficient creatures with various abilities geared towards disrupting your opponent's game plan (Leonin Arbiter, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Loxodon Smiter)
  • Generally the creatures are efficient, and even if you aren't disrupting your opponent's preferred routes of play you are still dropping creatures and beating face
